Andrew’s Review Notes I have a lot of sympathy for people who steal their technology from the hearse, just as its driving through the gates of the great technology knackers’ yard.

While it is obligatory to be savoir faire with the latest in design and innovation, when it comes to my personal spending I’m right there with the laggards, on the extreme right of the Technology Adoption Lifecycle.

You’ve heard of Early Adopters, and maybe Happy Hour Adopters. I’m a Last Orders Adopter. I made good use of a Palm long after everyone else had sold theirs.

Spikes in demand get lost in the cloud

One approach to smoothing out application demand is a load-balanced server farm. Another is virtualisation to bring extra resources to bear when needed.

But what about public cloud services? Surely they could be used to mop up excess demand?

More disk space, more bandwidth? Certainly, how would you like to pay?

The answer is yes, in theory, with a plethora of public cloud services to choose from, many offering scalable processing power, storage and other resources on a pay-as-you-go or utility basis.

Unboxing the ASRock A75 Extreme6 motherboard based on AMD A75 Hudson chipset for LIano processors

Samsung intros five more Series 9 Ultra-thin notebooks

Samsung’s ultra-thin Series 9 line-up of notebooks has just been extended with five more Intel powered models; three of which are 13.3-inch and two 11.6-inch sized ones. This family of notebooks are only 0.62-inches thick and no more than 1.31kg in weight.  All five models use SSDs and have an LED-backlit SuperBright panel running a 1366×768 resolution, Intel IGP, USB 3.0 support, FastStart technology (can ready up a machine in as little as 3 seconds), packed in a duralumin chassis with pre-loaded installation of Windows 7 Home Premium.
