Sony Recalls Potentially Shocking AC Adapters

Sony and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of a number its adapters due to a shock hazard. If you bought a Sony computer from 2005-2009, you might be at risk.

The voluntary recall affects Sony’s VGP-AC19V17 AC adapter model. That model was shipped with several Sony products, including:

  • All-in-one VAIO desktops of the VGC-LT series and VGC-JS2 series
  • VAIO Docking Stations of the VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 series
  • All told, some 69,000 adapters sold between September 2005 and October 2009 are due to be recalled. Read more…

    Dell Officially Introduces Rugged Latitude XT2 XFR Tablet

    Calling it “the industry’s first rugged tablet PC featuring capacitive multi-touch technology,” The 12.1″ XT2 XFR has some decent specs packed into a rugged frame – but that sort of thing won’t come cheap.

    The XFR will come with a 1.60GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9600 CPU to go along with up to 160GB of HDD or 128GB of SSD space. There will be up to 5GB RAM and the graphics are handled by Intel’s GMA 4500MHD. Aside from the capacitive multi-touch screen and gesture enabled touchpad, features include a fingerprint reader and hot-swappable 2MP camera or GPS.     HP Mini 311, 110 Now Available Subsidized From Verizon

    Verizon has revealed the pricing of two HP Mini netbooks when purchased along with a wireless contract. There is some savings to be had here, though the reduced price still probably isn’t as low as you were hoping for.

    The HP Mini 311 is a pretty powerful netbook, featuring an 11.6″ display with an Intel Atom N270 that is aided by NVidia’s ION to handle graphics up to 1080p. There will also be 2GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD, along with Windows 7 Home Premium. Read more…

    Microsoft is offering a downloadable version of its new Windows 7 operating system for netbooks and other PCs without an optical drive. The downloadable version boots via USB and is only available from the Microsoft Store. Downloadable versions include Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate; the prices remain unchanged at $119.99, $199.99, and $219.99 respectively.

    NETBOOK MAKERS NOW OFFERING WINDOWS 7 DRIVERS

    Notebooks and netbooks running on Windows 7 are now available for purchase. But what if you want to upgrade your existing netbook from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7? Well, it seems PC makers have heard your prayers. A number of manufacturers have started offering Windows 7 drivers for several existing models through their support and download sites.

    Asus, for instance, has already started offering Windows 7 drivers and utilities for its netbooks at its support page. Other PC makers who offer Windows 7 driver and application downloads include HP, Acer, Dell and Samsung.
