Compaq Airlife 100 smartbook appears at MWC

The “smartbook” from Compaq has just made its official debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. With some nifty mobile features, could this be the start of a successful new category?

The Compaq Airlife 100 that HP is offering has been rumored in the past to run on an ARM Snapdragon CPU, although the press release today did not confirm it. ACER ANNOUNCES ASPIRE ONE 532G NETBOOK WITH NVIDIA ION 2


Acer’s newly unveiled Aspire One 532G netbook is one of the first 10 inch netbooks with NVIDIA ION 2 graphics. In looks this device is virtually identical to the standard Aspire One 532H.

NVIDIA is yet to officially announce its ION 2 platform. And while Acer doesn’t confirm that Aspire One 532G uses ION 2, it does mention a ‘next-generation NVIDIA ION GPU with dedicated 512MB memory’.

NVIDIA’s ION 2 platform enables 1080p HD video playback on netbooks powered by Intel’s Pine Trail Atom processors. What ION 2 does is to pair a switchable graphics card with Atom N450 chipset.

Google responds to Buzz whiplash, disables auto-follow

Google has responded to waves of criticism over its new Buzz service, the most prevalent of which focused on the feature that caused all mail contacts to be automatically followed, a potential privacy violation. The changes seem to have mollified most objectors, though some remain unconvinced.

If you’re like most of the 176 million Gmail users, last week on Tuesday you woke up and Buzz was just there. You didn’t sign up for it. You weren’t really prompted about it or directed to a page with much explanation or settings. Read more…

Lenovo Intros G455/G555 AMD Notebooks

Lenovo has announced its latest consumer notebooks, the G445 and G555. The G455 and G555 feature 14.0- and 15.6-inch widescreen displays, respectively, AMD Turion II dual-core processors, and ATI Radeon HD integrated graphics.

The G455 and G555 will be available in the U.S. beginning in March starting at $449.
