Viewsonic Releases ViewBook Pro With Win 7, Interchangable Optical Drive/Battery

Viewsonic’s new CULV ViewBook Pro can house either an optical drive or a second battery, giving this thin 13.3″ notebook some serious battery life.

Other specs for the notebook include an Intel Core 2 SU7300 CPU, and 2GB of RAM (upgradable to 4GB). The 13.3″ portable laptop is housed in a fairly slim aluminum enclosure, and the regular battery is rated to last 8 hours. With the secondary battery housed in the optical drive slot, the battery life jumps up to 12 hours. You can choose to use neither the battery nor the optical drive to save weight.

There will be a silver model (Pro S) available with a DVD burner for $1,099 and a black model (Pro B) without an optical drive included for $999. Read more…

Working in the Clouds

Today I’m working in the clouds. I’m not talking about online apps though, I’m literally working from seat 21C aboard a Virgin America flight and can see clouds out of the window as I fly from San Francisco to New York for a Windows 7 launch event. Typically a cross-country flight means a loss of productivity, but today I’m using Gogo in-flight WiFi.

I just fired off a ton of emails, caught up on some online banking and performed some minor site maintenance. I’ve also been chatting away on Skype. The in-flight WiFi is pretty darn slow right now, but at least I can get online. Service dropped out for a couple minutes mid-flight, but it’s been relatively smooth. Read more…

Gateway Intros EC Series Notebooks

Gateway today introduced its EC series thin-and-light notebooks. The EC series has screen sizes from 11.6 to 15.6 inches and are claimed to deliver up to eight hours of battery life. The EC58/EC54 series notebooks are “so stylish that customers will want to show them off,” featuring a brushed aluminum alloy chassis and two available colors: Arctic Silver and Pacific Blue. The EC58/54 series are only an inch thin and weigh 5.29 pounds with a six-cell battery.
The EC14 series features an 11.6-inch display and weighs 3.79 pounds.

Acer’s AOD250 Netbook Dual Booting Android, XP, Now Official

This netbook from Acer will allow users to boot with Google’s Android OS, enabling unique features. If anyone is looking to see the Android OS in action for themselves, this netbook provides an excellent and affordable way.

The Android OS will primarily allow users to save time with “instant on” capabilities. According to the press release,

“Designed specifically for mobile devices and applications, Android allows the Aspire One netbook to boot up and shut down quickly with “instant on” Internet connectivity, saving time and boosting productivity”
