What Did You Get for Valentine’s?
2010
Valentines Day is usually about flowers and chocolates. But as a geek, the last thing I wanted to do was be cliche, and give what are basically decorative plants.
Dont get me wrong; my girlfriends reaction to flowers always makes me melt, and Ive got a box of chocolates to give to her today (this post is auto-scheduled to appear while we enjoy a trip out-of-town). As this is the first time were actually making a point to celebrate Valentines Day—and right on February 14, I decided to make the day even more special. Thats right: by the time you read this, my girlfriend will start enjoying her new remote control helicopter! It looks something like this:

but definitely doesnt cost a thousand pounds sterling, features a twin-rotor configuration, and is smaller. Only cheap Chinese knock-offs of the real thing fit into my budget, Im afraid.
I think my gift also features a much weaker electric motor, but is much much lighter. Test sessions saw it zoom straight up towards the relatively high ceiling of the toy store, when I maxed out the throttle. Hopefully, by the time you read this, me and my girlfriend have successfully beat the Valentines Day traffic (were leaving pretty early in the morning) and are enjoying the copters ability to not only go up or down, but move horizontally as well.
By now youre probably scratching you head and wondering, did he really get that for his girlfriend, or for himself? Rest assured Im not being selfish; my girlfriend is a pretty special girl (of course!) with varied tastes. Shes the hottest thing around, and is very feminine, but has the traditionally male fondness for cool toys. Besides, during our last visit to the toy store, the girlfriend offhandedly commented on how cool it would be to have one of those RC helicopters.
So my question to you is, dear readers, what did you get for valentines day? What did you give or receive? Only answers relevant to gadgets and technology will be accepted. Happy Valentines Day!
