Nvidia Tegra 2 Expected in 2010
2009
The Nvidia Tegra, which is being used in Microsoft’s Zune HD players, is going to get an upgrade to Tegra 2. The new chip will be released in 2010 and will support a broader range of devices.
The Tegra 2 chip is expected to be more than twice as powerful and energy efficient than the current generation Tegra. The new chip will be based on the ARM9 dual-core CPU whereas the current Tegra line-up is based upon ARM11 platform. There have been rumors of Tegra 2 powering the next generation Nintendo DS as well. The current support for HD 720p would also be extended to full HD 1080p playback.
Tegra is a System on Chip (SoC) design which integrates a processor, input/output controllers, memory, image-processing and storage controllers.
