OCZ Colossus Makes 1TB RAID SSD Setup Reality

OCZ is getting close to releasing its Colossus SSD line, with sizes ranging from 128GB to 1TB.

The unique part about this drive is that it takes two solid state drives and binds them together via a RAID setup and dual Indilinx controllers with their own DRAM. It is all mounted on a single PCB so that to the system, it appears as if it is still one drive. All this while fitting into a standard 3.5″ case and achieving rated speeds of about 260 MB/s all the way up to 1TB.

The Colossus allows fast speeds at sizes normally not seen on SSDs, and with the 128GB version to cost about $299 it is now a consumer item if a luxury one. The 1TB version, of course, will cost much more.

The product is not officially released yet but is expected to come out soon.
