Sony Recalls Potentially Shocking AC Adapters

Sony and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of a number its adapters due to a shock hazard. If you bought a Sony computer from 2005-2009, you might be at risk.

The voluntary recall affects Sony’s VGP-AC19V17 AC adapter model. That model was shipped with several Sony products, including:

  • All-in-one VAIO desktops of the VGC-LT series and VGC-JS2 series
  • VAIO Docking Stations of the VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 series
  • All told, some 69,000 adapters sold between September 2005 and October 2009 are due to be recalled. Users are advised to “turn off their computer, unplug it and stop using the recalled AC adapters immediately.” To contact Sony about a replacement, call (877) 361-4481 or visit esupport.sony.com/ac19adapter.
