How to watch the US vs. England World Cup match online

Today’s US/England World Cup match in Rustenburg is set to be the biggest battle since 1812 (well, maybe 1950) but how can you watch it online?

The Group C match is at 20:30 local time, which means 7:30pm in England, 2:30pm in New York, and 11:30am on the west coast. With the basics out of the way, how does one actually watch the match without cable or satellite television?

A MeFi article on the subject has a few suggestions, including the CBC who will be streaming the game online (though it will probably be region or customer locked). There are always paid proxy services for this if you want to get tricky though. ESPN3 is noted as a good place to turn to (depending on your ISP) but the US vs. England game does not appear to be listed at the moment.

LifeHacker has a few options listed as well, including some of those already mentioned, ESPN Mobile TV, the Beeb or ITV (if you are in the UK), and maybe the TVUnetwork streaming service.

For livestreams Crunchgear.com recommended Roja Directa and Iraq Goals. They might not be entirely legal ways to view but they could get the job done.

Also, Futbol.univision.com will be playing all the games from the 2010 World Cup online, regardless of your ISP. Everything will be in Spanish though. This might just turn out to be the online-watching secret weapon.

So, the thing is, it’s hit and miss. Depending on where you are located, who your ISP is, and what services you have access to, you might be able to watch the game or you might not. If you keep looking you should eventually find something though.

Update: Univision live matches here.
