Intel X79 boards will be launched as early as September

The latest tweet we received from our friends in the industry is the Intel X79 mainboards will be ready for some action as early as September this year. There will be some launch events in this part of the world.

On the other hand, processors will not be made available. Thus, manufacturers that launches their products will end up having difficulty promoting it with benchmark figures as these are not allowed.

Sony Mini Speaker Comes With Stylish Outsides, Dated Innards

Sonys SRF-18 portable radio speaker setup features technology that would have been unremarkable two decades ago.

The tiny speaker system has an AM/FM radio, sound recording, and an auxiliary input for whatever peripheral device youve got (be it smartphone or 8-track player). The tuner looks straight out of the 70s, complete with yellow sliding bar and thumb-driven dial.

Sonys Jambox lookalike can sustain continuous play for several days on two AA batteries. If you plan on using it at your desk and dont want to burn through batteries, however, theres an AC adapter available for purchase (sold separately, of course).

At the very least, the SRF-18 comes with a decent paint job.

gScreen SpaceBook – Dual 17″ LED HD Display Laptop

Well they say necessity is the mother of invention, and that was the case for Gordon Stewart the creator of the gScreen. He wanted to be able to have desktop replacement with dual monitors on the go for video editing, and the gScreen was born.

The SpaceBook, at 10-pounds, weighs about 3-pounds more than the average 17-inch laptop (7-pounds), but gives users an extra full size 17-inch screen for mobile productivity. Specs include Windows 7 Pro, Intel i7 quad-core CPU with 8GB DDR1333 RAM, webcam, 500G HDD, NVIDIA discreet graphics, HDMI and Super DVD ODD.

Server sales still growing strong

Server sales in the second quarter of 2011 grew 17.9 per cent in revenue terms to $13.2bn, reckons IDC.

This is the sixth quarter of growth and unit sales also grew 8.5 per cent to 2.1 million boxes.

The IDC abacus-botherers classify servers as either volume, midrange enterprise or high-end enterprise. Volume and midrange grew by 16.6 and 16.7 per cent respectively, while high-end boxes saw sales grow 22.6 per cent.

Blade sales grew 26.9 per cent year on year in cash terms. Linux-based systems grew 47.5 per cent, thanks to Fujitsu’s K-computer HPC system. Windows-based machines also grew: 12.4 per cent year on year.

IBM and HP are almost tied for top spot with 30.5 per cent and 29.8 per cent market shares respectively.
