Kingston Ships Wi-Drive Wireless Storage Solution

Kingston is now shipping its Wi-Drive wireless storage device for the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. This device uses a built-in Wi-Fi signal and is capable of streaming movies, music, and other content to your iOS device. The Wi-Drive comes in 16GB and 32GB capacities. The drive is compatible with the Apple iPad; iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4G (3G is limited to iOS 4.2.1 or higher); and iPod Touch Gen 3 and Gen 4.

Digits Live Show: Netflix, Amazon, & Zynga’s Push into China

On today’s digits: Netflix investors react to the company’s near-term growth warning, Wal-mart said it will begin to offer online streaming of movies, Amazon is expected to report declines in its quarterly earnings despite a sales boom, and Zynga branches out into mainland China through a partnership with Tencent – not with Facebook.

ARM scooping in cash but remains cautious

ARM has outperformed estimates for the second quarter, increasing revenue by 18 per cent as its chips continue to be embedded in everything from mobile phones to washing machines.

More than a billion chips, based on licensed ARM designs, shipped during the second quarter of 2011. That pushed the company’s pre-tax profits up to £54.2m on revenue of £117.8m, well above analysts’ estimates of £45.3m. But the company is still cautious about the rest of the year, with its own predictions for the whole of 2011 unchanged.

Analyst Suggests Samsung Smartphones Outsold Apple and Nokia in Q2

According to a London-based analyst with research firm Strategy Analytics, which itself is based in Boston, MA, Samsung may have sold more smartphones than both Nokia and Apple globally in Q2. The analyst, Neil Mawston, claimed in an e-mail response that Samsung sold an estimated 18 to 21 million smartphones this past quarter due to Samsung’s strong worldwide market presence and demand for Android-based devices.

Sales data in a Bloomberg story outlining Mawston’s response suggests Nokia sold roughly 16.7 million units in the same time frame, to Apple’s 20.3 million. Skype releases official 5.5 Update with Facebook integration

Based on user feedback from its June beta release, Skype has now rolled out the final 5.5 build of its software which is Skype 5.5 adds deeper Facebook integration in that you can view which of your FB friends are online from it directly as well as being able to instant message them from the new ‘Facebook Contacts’ tab. The ability to view and update your Facebook status is also possible as well as being able to view and ‘like’ posts from your wall directly from Skype Home.    Focusing more on Skype specific functions, there has been a number of updates made to improve general Skype calling with better controls for video and group video calling in Windows as well as more solid video calling reliability and some design changes to help make things a little easier in all.
