Pretty much the only thing stopping me from buying an iPhone to use as my next camera is the fact that I can’t shoot photos with a shallow depth-of-field, which throws the background into a distraction-free blur while keeping your subject pin sharp. T

Sony S2 folding tablet shows off its hinges and Honeycomb in leaked video

Sony’s elusive new folding tablet, the S2, has been something of a mystery since it’s original pseudo-unveiling. Along with its larger sibling, the S1, the tablet is supposed to be running Android, and its form-factor is both easy on the eyes and fairly unique in a field of slabs. They’re also very clearly yours and under your direct control with no ifs or buts when it comes to who owns, not just the hardware and software, but the data and the intellectual property therein.

Strategically, in-house servers make less sense. You have to f

Nintendo Sued Over 3DS Screen Technology

Tomita Technologies has sued Nintendo over the glasses-free 3D technology for the Nintendo 3DS. Tomita claims that Nintendo has infringed on their patent that they filed in 2003 titled, “Stereoscopic Image Picking Up and Display System Based Upon Optical Axes Cross-Point Information” While not the easiest thing to understand, Tomita claims that their technology allows devices to display 3D images without glasses. This, of course, is the basis of Nintendo’s 3DS handheld gaming device. Founded by a former Sony engineer in 2002, Tomita had their patent approved in 2008, years before Nintendo released their 3DS.

The lawsuit brought on by Tomita centers around Tomita’s U.S.
