Advanced Camera System Revealed in Apple Patent Application

Apple’s latest patent application details a new camera flash system that would optimize the flash based on the photo’s subject. It combines a flash redirector, imaging sensors that concentrate on scene conditions, and a touch screen.

This combination of these elements could be used to provide the equivalent of a touch-to-focus for light for dark areas of a soon-to-be photograph: a touch-to-illuminate feature. The system could be incorporated into iOS devices, the iMac, MacBooks, and even a dedicated video camera.

Mobile Apps Security: Apple iOS v. Google Android

The Apple iOS, which runs on its iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, has a flaw in how it reads PDF documents that makes it easier to hack. This flaw is exploited by JailbreakMe, a one-click site that makes it easy for anyone without any real tech skills to hack into their own iPhone.

JailbreakMe brought the security risk to light, finally causing Apple to release security updates for iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone and iPod touch and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad this week.

A notice for a battery replacement was posted late last year on Apple Japan’s website but it requires several clicks before it can be read.

The government, in talks with Apple Japan since last year, pressed the company to correct that, ministry official Seiji Shimagami said Friday.

Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr said an easily accessible web page will be set up by early next week that outlines how to get a battery replacement.

Apple will also send e-mails to registered owners, he said in a telephone interview from California. “Sa
