Performing a backup of your data used to involve buying software, setting it up on every machine you want backed up, buying a secondary storage device, and remembering to schedule backups for when the machine is actually going to be powered on. Things got easier when cloud-based backups appeared. Now we can pay a monthly or annual fee and get backups carried out automatically and without the need for another storage device.
