Cisco finalises Tandberg acquisition

Cisco has closed its purchase of Tandberg, after it named the organisation it will entrust with overseeing its key interoperability protocol for video conferencing.

The International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium (IMTC) will have the responsibility of ensuring that the protocol — known as Telepresence Interoperability Protocol (TIP) — is made freely available to Cisco’s competitors. Divesting TIP to a third-party organisation was a condition of the European Commission’s approval for the Tandberg takeover.

TOKYO – Dec. 10, 2009 – Accenture Japan Ltd. and Cisco Systems G.K. announced today that they have extended the scope of their strategic alliance by expanding an innovative virtual group to include a team focused on the Japanese market. Cisco Pavilion to Showcase Smart+Connected Life in 2020

SHANGHAI, China, October 20, 2009 – Cisco signed a participation agreement today with the organizers of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo that is scheduled to be held from May 1st to Oct. 31st in 2010. According to the agreement, Cisco will develop a corporate pavilion where visitors will have the opportunity to see life in a city of the year 2020, with all the advantages of new technology. Cisco will showcase its Smart+Connected Life concept from the perspective of visitors’ personal experiences.
