Green Power Island creates more land and energy

This Green Power Island is designed to combat two things that the Earth might be greatly lacking in the future: land and energy.

The architectural firm of Gottlieb Paludan from Copenhagen created a serious combination of eco-friendly power with the wind turbines near the shore, not to mention all of the solar panels taking up the landmass.

Thats pretty visible from this mock-up image, but what you dont see is that the green space is for biofuel crops. Not only that, seawater is pumped into a lagoon-like reservoir, which is emptied by the turbine-powered pumps when it is low.

New NEC Cooler Design Promises Big Energy Savings

Taking a page from conventional refrigeration techniques, NEC has developed a new cooling system the company claims uses 60 percent less energy than a water cooling loop, and up to 80 percent less than an air cooling system.

NEC’s cooler is built around a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) substitute. The refrigerant starts to boil at around 50C, at which point it changes into vapor and absorbs the heat coming from the CPU. Like a traditional water cooling loop, it then flows through a tube and is cooled by a fan in a radiator before turning back into a liquid and starting the process anew.

In addition to low greenhouse effects, NEC says the cooling fan doesn’t have to work nearly as hard when compared to other cooling systems, and so it uses less energy.

Orbiting solar power plant to provide energy

California is the economic engine of the US, and it is no surprise that yet another startup from Los Angeles County, California, has come up with the idea of selling energy harvested from the sun to users. This sounds normal, but it is literally an out-of-this-world plan, since it will provide the juice harvested from solar energy that is captured by solar panels which will orbit the planet. Plans for this idea are still under the theoretical stage and have yet to give birth fully, although they have targeted 2015 as the release date.
