Sony Mini Speaker Comes With Stylish Outsides, Dated Innards

Sonys SRF-18 portable radio speaker setup features technology that would have been unremarkable two decades ago.

The tiny speaker system has an AM/FM radio, sound recording, and an auxiliary input for whatever peripheral device youve got (be it smartphone or 8-track player). The tuner looks straight out of the 70s, complete with yellow sliding bar and thumb-driven dial.

Sonys Jambox lookalike can sustain continuous play for several days on two AA batteries. If you plan on using it at your desk and dont want to burn through batteries, however, theres an AC adapter available for purchase (sold separately, of course).

At the very least, the SRF-18 comes with a decent paint job.

Is this the next Sony VAIO Z?

We haven’t heard much about Sony’s ultra slim VAIO Z in months, but when we have, we’ve always been left with more questions than answers. We’ve seen its specs (but not handsome face) splashed on various European websites, while Sony, for its part, has only made the coy promise that its newly redesigned S series thin-and-lights are not meant to replace the more premium Z line. Lo and behold, we’re now seeing photos of what purports to be the next-gen Z series and, as always, we’re left wanting more. Hackers may have used Amazon server for Sony PSN breach

An Amazon cloud server is said to have been used by the PlayStation Network hackers to wage their attack.

Hackers responsible for the massive security breach of Sony’s PlayStation Network that left as much as 100 million users at risk of identity theft used an Amazon-run server to launch the attack, according to “a person with knowledge of the matter,” reports Bloomberg.

Rather than hijack Amazon’s server, the hackers allegedly used an alias to sign up for an account through Amazon’s EC2 service, and waged their cyber attack from there, says the unnamed source. The accou

RIP, Sony Walkman. Vintage gadget officially retired

In 1979, Sony introduced a little device called the Walkman, a portable way to listen to audio cassette tapes. Today, 30 years and countless innovations later, all remaining threads on the Walkman’s lifeline in Japan have been cut.

Yes, Sony has decided to pull the plug on the gadget that first made it a household name in audio electronics. The company has sold more than 220 million Walkman units worldwide.

Today’s announcement marks the end of production for the device in Japan, the market where it was introduced and became the birthplace of today’s environment of portable music players.
