Moog Gets Cheeky, Releases iPad App Filled With Fart Sounds

Its a dirty little secret that people like to play with their iOS devices while sitting on the toilet. So why not an app that lets you recreate that experience when youre away from the porcelain throne?

Moog Music has released a new extension pack for its Animoog iPad synth that explores the lower end of the sonic spectrum by tapping into the sounds generated by the lower ends of our digestive tracts.

In other words, the company has added fart sounds to the Animoog app.

With a release date of April 1st, its easy to dismiss this as a joke.

If you have watched Real Steel in the cinemas already, then you might be able to identify better.

HP mates blades with VMware vSphere

VMworld It’s the VMworld virtualization extravaganza this week, and that means everyone wants to show that they are best buddies with VMware and enthusiastically supporting its virty and cloudy tools. And so it is that Hewlett-Packard is trying to change the subject about its own software aspirations and PC business spinoff and wants to talk about putting the vSphere 5.0 stack on its VirtualSystem preconfigured virtualized servers.

Just in case you can’t keep the HP product names straight, Blade System is the name of the company’s blade chassis and related x64-based server blades.

Surly Moonlander With Clownshoe Rims, Big Fat Tires

Surly, maker of tough bikes for tough people with a sense of humor, has pulled back the curtain on the coming years new products. There are many updates to existing lines (the Long Haul Trucker frame will also be available with disk brake mountings, for instance), and a pair of new bikes. Here, though, well take a look at the new Moonlander. Why pick on this one? Well, just look at it:

Crazy, right? The space-colored (black with metal goodness flakes) frame sits atop a pair of wheels that would probably float over just about anything. The Clownshoe rims are 100mm wide, and have holes cut in them to cut down on weight (960 grams or 2.1 pounds).

HP opens Big Data front with Oracle

With all of the attention focused on the war raging between Oracle and Hewlett-Packard, a significant HP announcement in late June seemed to slip under the radar of the industry press.

On June 20, the company announced general availability of Vertica 5.0, the newest version of the Vertica Analytics Platform, along with some integrated appliance-like bundles combining Vertica with HP hardware.

HP bought the company earlier this year and it looks like Vertica is to be HP’s key play in the burgeoning ‘Big Data’ market.
